Basic Sciences

The Department of Basic Sciences was established in the year 2009. Since its inception the department is imparting quality education to the students of the various core branches of engineering in physical, mathematical and chemical sciences. The Department of Basic Sciences is headed by Dr. Prameela. The HOD of Basic Science is also coordinating all first year BE programs. The Department currently has 10 well experienced and dedicated faculty members.

Apart from teaching in a most understandable way the department also aims to make students industrious so that, later they can shoulder our country in the task of National Development. Recently two of the faculty members obtained their Ph.D. degrees from the reputed Universities after doing exhaustive research work in their disciplines. To their credit they have patents, projects sanctioned and number of publications in National and International journals. Five faculty members from the department are working for their Ph.D. degrees by registering under VTU and NITK, Surthkal.

From this year, the department of Physics of BIT has started Ph.D. programmes in Environmental Radioactivity and Nuclear spectroscopy. The department has individual cabins and computers with internet facility for all faculty members. The departmental library has wide collection of reference books, textbooks monographs, conference proceedings, and a compilation of scientific articles.

The department has state of the art laboratory facilities to conduct undergraduate level experiments in Engineering Physics, Chemistry and Applied Science.

WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF BASIC SCIENCES

India has given incredible impetus for the development of Science and technology since ancient time. We find enough evidence for this in our religious texts, Vedas and Upanishads. Pandit Nehruji in his monumental work on World history describes India as the cradle of human civilization. Vedas have praised our country as ratnagarbhavasundara (a repository of gems). Our country not only has hidden in its womb precious gems and pearls but also has given birth to scientists, technocrats, doctors and academicians of highest merit. Science gives the ideas and technology crystallizes those ideas into a material form. This is the relationship which exists between science and technology. Science extends its field from a very minute nucleon to a huge nebula.

In this direction, the department of basic science at BIT with the support highly qualified and experienced faculty members is providing quality education in physical, chemical and mathematical sciences to the engineering undergraduate students.

Apart from teaching in a most understandable way the department also aims to make students industrious so that, later they can shoulder our country in the task of National Development.
