Welcome to the department of electronics and communication engineering in BIT Mangalore. Electronics and Communication Engineering Department was established in the year 2009. It offers 4 years B.E programme, It has dedicated faculty who interact closely with alumni in academia and industry in India and abroad in order to make the programmes to meet the aspirations of different stack holders. ECE department is equipped with state art of the CAD tools, Microelectronics and Microwave equipment. Students are highly innovative and have won several prizes in both national level design contests.ECE department has an excellent placement record which has been consistently above 95 %. Alumni of the ECE Dept occupy key positions in industry and are successful as entrepreneurs. It offers innovative approaches to teaching-learning and encourages virtual learning in order to tap the potential of its highly successful alumni spread all over the globe.
Students are trained to learn about core Electronics and communication engineering subjects like digital electronics and logic design, fundamentals of communication engineering, electronic circuits, signals and systems, power electronics, applied electromagnetic theory, integrated circuits, VLSI, Microcontrollers , Microprocessors, control systems, and computer architecture, Wireless communication, satellite communication GSM, CDMA, Digital communication Networking and mobile computing are just a few to mention.

It is sometimes unbelievable, how many electronic gadgets we are carrying these days with us like a digital wristwatch, calculator, cell-phone, digital diary, remote controls, GPS etc. Electronics & Communication Engineering Department understands the importance of preparing engineering students in this competitive world.
The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, BIT is imparting high-quality technical education to the budding engineers with the support of well qualified & experienced faculty. Well experienced faculty members with excellent knowledge in diverse fields are the backbone of the department. The departments focus is to impart synergistic education in the field of Electronics & Communication and to produce quality E&C Engineers with high technical knowledge and good practical skills combined with leadership skills.
The department gives exposure to its students, to not only the regular Engineering curriculum but also to the aspirations of today’s corporate world, by inculcating a professional attitude in them. Our labs, with latest facilities and unlimited Internet facility, give our students a cutting edge in technical exploration and enhance their information search and analysis skills. The project which is an important part of their curriculum, not only gives them a chance to understand and explore their area of interest, but it will be an important aspect in their contribution to the company they would join after the degree. Students are encouraged to join various technical and non-technical forums, which in turn gives them exposure to Engineering concepts and technology.

Analog Electronics Lab deals with the experiments related to Analog Electronics circuits. The students will have hands -on experience of Diode based Electronics circuits and Transistor based Electronics circuits. The Major equipments include CROs, Function Generators, Power Supplies
2. LOGIC DESIGN LAB
Logic Design Lab deals with the experiments related to Digital Electronics circuits. The students will have hands -on experience of Logic gates, Combinational and Sequential circuits. The Major equipments include Digital IC trainers, Digital IC Tester, and Patchcords It includes design of Shift Registers, Binary Counters, Multiplexers and Demultiplexers using ICs and Logic Gates.
3. DSP LAB
Digital Signal Processing Lab deals with the experiments related to Digital and image Processing. The students will have hands -on experience on DSP algorithms and Digital filters. The Major equipments include Computers, TEXAS DSP kits, MATLAB software.
4. ANALOG COMMUNICATION + LIC LAB
Analog Communication Lab deals with the experiments related to Communication and OP-AMP circuits. Communication fields include Modulation and Demodulation techniques.LIC includes design of filters, converters, multivibrators etc. The Major equipments include CROs, Function Generators, Power Supplies and Multimeters.
5. VLSI LAB
Objective of this lab is to learn with Digital and Analog IC design. Here we used Cadance tools to design ICs. For Digital IC design here we design digital circuits such as combinational circuit and sequential circuit. Then simulate the design and synthesize to get logic circuit. For analog IC design we learn the Virtuoso tool as well learn the flow of the Full Custom IC design cycle. In the process you will create various components like inverter, differential amplifier, op-amp, R-2R based DAC and Mixed signal design of SAR based ADC
6. POWER ELECTRONICS LAB
Application of electronic circuits to energy conversion is known as power electronics. Objective of this lab is to conduct various experiments and to understand the characteristics of power semiconductor switches like SCR, TRIAC, IGBTs, and MOSFETs. Also, RC triggering circuit for controlled half wave and full wave rectifier, Inverter and converter circuits, and finally about chopper circuits is discussed. In the present days, power electronics has wide number of applications on electrical drive systems. For the better understanding of this system, we deal with experiments on speed control of stepper motor, separately excited motor, and universal motor.
