“Knowing vastly about the subject is one aspect, but abilities to crunch the essence of the subject matter in the best way possible is the other aspect which is highly required for a thorough researcher.” said Prof. Rodrigues, Principal DMI College of Engg, Chennai. He was addressing the students and faculty members of Bearys Institute of technology, Mangalore on the topic “Opportunities in the field of engineering research” . In an hour long session, Prof. Rodrigues explained core aspects of engineering research and shared his research experience with the faculty members and the students gathered. He explained about various types of engineering research like Life cycle engineering, frugal research, and component engineering and innovation. He said that frugal research is one which is going on at a terrific speed all across the globe. He said “Engineering is all about trade between cost and quality. An engineer can successfully bridge the gap between inventor and society by the thorough knowledge of fundamental concepts, with the good observation of market trend and with the innovative research” The students and the faculty members present in the programme were very much impressed by his talk. Dr. Palakshappa, Principal, Bearys Institute of Technology welcomed and introduced Prof. Paul Rodrigues to the gathering and Dr. Aziz Mustafa Professor, Computer Science Department concluded the session by rendering a vote of thanks.
