Two days workshop on Outcome Based Education

Accreditation is a process of quality assurance and improvement. Where by a Programme in an approved institution is critically appraised to verify that the institution or the Programme continues to meet and / or exceed the norms and standards prescribed by regulator from time to time. It is a kind of recognition which indicates that a Programme or an Institution fulfills certain standards. National Board of Accreditation (NBA), an autonomous body carries out accreditation for various programmes in India. Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is a student-centric teaching and learning methodology in which the course delivery, assessment are planned to achieve stated objectives and outcomes. It focuses on measuring student performance i.e. outcomes at different levels. A two days workshop on outcome based Education system was organized for BIT- Teaching faculty on 27th and 28th June 2019 at international seminar hall. The program began with invocation of Almighty and welcome address by Dr. P. Mahabaleswarappa, Principal, BI, Mangalore. The resource persons for the program were Professors from BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore. Dr. R. V. Ranganath, Professor of Civil Department. Dr. D. Seshachalam, Professor of ECE Department, Dr. Varaprasad, Professor of Computer science Department, Dr. R. Suresh Kumar, Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department. The program started at 10:30 AM with introduction to OBE by Dr. Ranganath, in his session he has covered Course Outcome (CO), Programme Outcomes (POs), Program Educational Objectives (PEOs), Programme Specific Outcomes (PSO) and Graduate Attributes (GA).

Objectives of the Programme were

  • Designing curriculum for attaining required learning outcomes.
  • Identification and adoption of pedagogical initiatives for achieving learning outcomes.
  • Selection and use of appropriate assessment tools for measuring the attainment of learning outcomes.

At the end of program the faculties have given their feedback regarding the programme and they told they will be able to

  • Write course outcomes (COs)
  • Map COs to Programme outcomes (POs) and Programme specific outcomes
  • Prepare Course articulation and Program articulation matrix
  • Identify the curricular gap in meeting the POs and PSOs
  • Identify Direct and Indirect assessment tools for measuring attainment of Cos and POs
  • Measure the attainment of COs, POs and PSOs
  • Prepare Self Assessment Report (SAR). The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Shouiab Kamal of ECE Department and the National Anthem on 28th June 2019 at 6:00 PM
